This study explores the advantages and disadvantages of using smartphones in English language learning. Employing a library research design, the analysis focused on twenty peer-reviewed articles examining the integration of smartphone applications in English teaching and learning contexts. Content analysis was used to identify key patterns and themes across the studies. The findings indicate that smartphone applications positively influence English language acquisition by enhancing learner engagement, motivation, and access to authentic materials. They also foster autonomous learning and strengthen communication skills through interactive and flexible learning environments. However, several challenges were identified, including classroom management issues, distractions, and noise disruptions caused by inappropriate device use. Managing large classes also presented difficulties, as monitoring and regulating smartphone usage required additional effort from instructors. Overall, while smartphones offer substantial pedagogical benefits in English language education, their effectiveness largely depends on thoughtful implementation, appropriate supervision, and the establishment of clear classroom guidelines to ensure that technology enhances, rather than disrupts, the learning process.
